March Muses has today revealed a new Christmas advert that calls for more decorations of colour to help make the festive season more inclusive for black families across the UK, and to help other families tackle the topic of race with their children.
March Muses product range features Black angels and Black Santa baubles, all individually handmade, with close attention being made to skin tone, hair design, body shape and size. They embody diversity, elegance and a side of Christmas that is rarely seen.
Starring in the new ad, co-founder of March Muses Natalie Duvall and her daughter, Olivia, showcase the lack of diversity in conventional decorations and aim to open eyes and minds to images of normality not novelty.
Natalie said: “2020 has highlighted the many issues faced by the black community. With more than three million people of colour in the UK, our Black Christmas tree decorations represent inclusion at a time when we need it most.”
Devised by an innovative creative agency of three brothers, 10 Days, the ground-breaking campaign was created within one week and donated completely free of charge to March Muses.
It features bespoke music co-written and performed by hit song-writer & Disciples founder Nathan Duvall & co-founder Dominic White.
Jolyon White, founder at 10 Days commented: “We wanted to showcase a cause that stood for representation, giving people a platform and trying to give Christmas a better and more inclusive place in culture. Once we discovered March Muses we had to support and we’re proud to bring their incredible story to life.”
Alison Burton, co-founder of March Muses added: “March Muses was founded on one clear principle; to present Christmas as it should be presented, by adding a splash of colour to a traditionally white Christmas. With our new advert, we’re hoping to help others like us feel represented. 10 Days and their incredible creative team have brought this message to life perfectly and we couldn’t be prouder of the outcome. Their time and talent is invaluable for us as a small business. It will help us reach more people.”
